You see, you haven't been paying attention.

My issues isn't at its core about keeping my stats (yes, I'd love to
keep them, I like knowing what I've contributed).  My biggest problem
is with the ignore-attitude that the project has towards it users -
ESPECIALLY during a system change.

My problem could be about something totally different- not related to
stats, and my arguments would be the same.

Read before reacting.  It's like this Martin, let me give you a task,
that your willing to do free, for nothing, as a volunteer.  Let's say
plant apple seeds in your back yard and record the germination
results, ok.

Do that for 5 years, send me all the results.  I'm gonna publish them,
use them to help get funding for my project.

Then, when you have a valid question, I totally ignore you.
