Running SETI has been very rewarding. There's a people problem at
headquarters (and with some of their defenders on this newsgroup), starting
with the fact that no one seems to see just how vital it is to have one
dependable, easily accessed, current and friendly point of communication.

Which is their web site, and forums. Again, there are vastly too many users to offer a non-automatic 'personal' 'service'.

The people who download and run work units are not "clients" of SETI @ home.
We ARE Seti @ home. We deserve better.

Phew! Egocentric rebellion in one of the users.

The PR aspects have already been extensively explained.

environment makes me suspicious of that whenever I see the kind of dismal
results now being observed. Since I value SETI so much, it's something I
just don't want to ignore. Sometimes it takes outside pressure to break up
an internal problem.

Ignorant revolution no less?

I CONSIDER YOU TO BE:
Ignorant and presumptuous beyond belief!

Now, do you really have any modicum of the faintest of an idea of what s@h are doing or how? Let alone what the numbers mean.

If you haven't noticed, a _lot_ has been done in the last few days.

And what have you lost?

And how have /you/ made this /your/ project to usurp?

If you really wish, set up your own Boinc server (the software is freely available), take your own merry band of revolutionaries, and start up your own group. You are free to do so.

Now, it is very fair to criticise downtime. To DEMAND or claim to be 'deserving' is something very different...

Can you usefully offer your services at Berkeley to help out?
Have you joined The Planetary Society to finance SETI?

Good luck,
Martin
