Hello all,

    I am running SuSE Linux 6.3 and 8.0, and have tried to
start running B.O.I.N.C. on two of the 8.0 computers.  When I
attempt to run the gunzip'ped executable, I am told "error while
loading shared libraries: libgcc_s.so.1: cannot open shared object
file: No such file or directory".  However, the symbolic link
exists, and points to
"/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-suse-linux/2.95.3/libgcc.a" (which also
exists - although its permissions did not permit execution by users
other than root, I have changed them and run "ldd").  There is
still no improvement.  Can anyone please tell me how to resolve
this problem?

Does it not work on both your SuSE machines?

Checking here I get:
$ locate libgcc_s.so.1
/lib/libgcc_s.so.1

$ llh /lib/libgcc_s.so.1
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root 19 May  4 11:46 /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 -> libgcc_s-3.3.2.so.1*

$ llh /lib/libgcc_s-3.3.2.so.1
-rwxr-xr-x  1 root root 32K Feb 13 14:49 /lib/libgcc_s-3.3.2.so.1*

Which works fine here. Note the gcc version and permissions.

You may just need to upgrade to a later version of gcc. I vaguely remember that 2.95 and/or 2.96 are 'Red Hat Specials' in some way.

Good luck,
Martin
