Well Chris, I'm still here. A little trouble logging into the giganews
server, slowing me down, but that's their problem.

A win98 story...

Now my system.ini says:

[vcache]
ChunkSize=14848
MinFileCache=51200
MaxFileCache=524288

I was able to boot up with your number, and again with Microsoft's slightly
bigger number.

Interesting that the M$ article puts a "comma" in the number (524,288). I
decided to leave the comman out, when modifying my system.ini. If I weren't
afraid that my computer would never boot up again, I'd try it with the
comma, just to prove that it was a bad mistake for M$ to include it. Is it
news to them that people want to copy and paste? I wonder how many peoples'
systems got screwed up because they copied a silly comma from a M$ doc...

524288 kB means 512 MB of ram. That's a conversion multiplier of 2.4, plus
or minus a few powers of ten. Assuming the muliplier is linear, I would
love to increase my maxfilecache to 786,432, for whatever good it will do
me. Problem is, if the computer won't boot afterwards, would there be any
way to change the number back to 524288?

More stuff to read about. Fortunately, I love it.

Also, I'm quite certain the computer is booting up faster. Sorry I didn't
quantify, but thanks for speeding me up!
