Well, its been an hour since this post.
Is it safe to draw the obvious conclusion???
I'm back, I'm back, I'm back, I'm back, I'm back, I'm back
I only had the nerve to increase my maxfilecache to 512 MB. Does that mean
I'm only using 512 MB, and the last 256 MB isn't doing anything? Should I
sell it and get a new DVD RW?
I read once that anything after the 512, if you use the max file cache
setting, is uncached and just slows down the system.
If you can you might take it out and see what happens, maybe do a few
tests before and then take it out and see the difference. MAKE SURE
you reboot BEFORE each test so you remove any possibility of the data
being cached.
If you still have the book that came with the motherboard it should
tell you how much max memory the board can take.
If not maybe the manufacturers web site can help.
You do realize that if you went to Win2k alot of these issues would go
away....RIGHT! The motherbaord is stil lthe motherbaord and max board
memory is still there but the max file cache line would be GONE!
AND MUCH fewer crashes!!!
Win98 including SE will crash if left alone for a little over 38 days,
just sitting there doing nothing, it will crash, because of the way it
handles memory! 2k will NOT do that, I have had 2k machines running
for well over a year with no shutdown at all, yes 24/7, crunching
Seti, and they just work!
