Well I can't recall the old @home being down for anywhere near this long
since July 1999 when I started. But that aside, what you ignore is that the
introduction of BOINC caused Classic, which was working fine, to crash and
burn, which should never have been allowed to happen.
These attitudinal problems did not start with BOINC. I remember when I
started there was a minefield back then. There were references to a new
version which would soon be mandatory, but no friendly guidance for
non-nerds about this new version. When I complained about that on this
newsgroup, my objections were met with ridicule. I almost left for good
then, but stayed only because I found the project so worthwhile.
SETI is about science. SETI @ home is about people. 99.9% of those people
are @home, not on the Berkeley campus. Why is that so hard to understand?
