<snip my OP>
From my earlier posts, people should guess that I'm for the Science,
both astro and computer.
Easily seen. Please don't let it go to your head, but this, IMO, is the
most 'noble' reason to run a DC proj. It is ostensibly the
raison d'etre OF any serious DC project.
The 'stats' are a 'fun' playful aside. (And
yes, I see that some a very emotive and passionate about their stats...)
Agreed. I know some ppl for whom DC is a bloodsport!
This is obviously a bleeding-edge new development and foul-ups can be
/expected/ (whether or not anticipated (:-)).
Agreed. The degree of SNAFU's and communication concerning them,
seems to be the reason for differences in opinion we've seen.
I have BOINC trickling along helping with whatever debugging and
shakedown s@h developers need to do. I also have other projects running
to pick up any slack until the s@h system settles down.
Same here.
Note: Without the present 'snafu' and associated angst by some, we'd
still be waiting out further tests and trails to hit whatever hiccups
later. The 'power-stats' grabbers are just on a bit of a development
gamble that the system hangs together for them to 'compete' so soon.
Yes, for some it may be stats greed, for lack of better words, and for
others it may be the fun of strating a 'new proj'. I believe Berkeley may
have been surprised by the 'competitive quotient' that developed after
releaing SAH Classic. But, for better or worse, competition is an integral
subset of the DC community.
s@h are developing a VERY NEW and VERY BIG NEW system. Bugs and all
manner of things through to outright vandalism by some users is to be
expected.
I hope most users will understand and ride through on the new
developments.
Me too, though I hate to see extended trouble turn into alienation, which is
already happening. Too much, too long, and the temporary unhappiness can
turn into a decision to shun the project. this can have quite an effect on
other things BOINC, not just SAH. SAH BOINC's issues have already
come up in discussion w/i CPDN, although there does not seem to be any
real aversion, at this point, to BOINC w/i the CPDN community.
There's a great deal at stake here, since BOINC is not a project, but
a framework for projects, hoping to expand as a the de facto environment
for DC. At least, that's my take on it. I'd suspect the BOINC Dev team
are working thier tails off to get on track. This is much bigger than SAH.
Reputation is at stake.
As for me, I've decided to continue on w/BOINC, since my sys's are set up
to revert to CPDN if I run out of SAH2 work. Either way, I guess I really
can't loose.
