From my earlier posts, people should guess that I'm for the Science,
both astro and computer.

Easily seen. Please don't let it go to your head, but this, IMO, is the
most 'noble' reason to run a DC proj. It is ostensibly the
raison d'etre OF any serious DC project.

Don't worry, at the moment my head is pummelled enough to keep me meek for at least a quarter lifetime (:-(( ... (:-(( ...

At least the ideas behind science are _consistent_.

The 'stats' are a 'fun' playful aside. (And
yes, I see that some a very emotive and passionate about their stats...)

Agreed. I know some ppl for whom DC is a bloodsport!

Didn't know you could get /that/ from kicking electrons around!!

I suspect that the scientists at Berkeley can't understand the extent of some of the 'competitive' spirit. It is a sort of mentality that I've seen and noted. There are various forms of 'competitive' and perhaps scientists just have a very different idea about it...

The second thread gives a near comprehensive summary with good support.

Note that it is only those with some whinge or axe to grind that go to the trouble to make a noise. There's even fewer that see "unfair" ring loud in the comments and wade in to try to 're-educate' the ignorants in their full blind anger.

for DC. At least, that's my take on it. I'd suspect the BOINC Dev team
are working thier tails off to get on track. This is much bigger than SAH.
Reputation is at stake.

Very much so. A *LOT* is very definitely being done... Their only mistake likely was in not restricting the Beta test -> Release better and letting events overtake them a little.

As for me, I've decided to continue on w/BOINC, since my sys's are set up
to revert to CPDN if I run out of SAH2 work. Either way, I guess I really
can't loose.

I'm fully on Linux here so I need to wait a while yet for CPDN to be ported over. The shenanigans to run the CPDN Windoze version on Linux Wine is not worth the effort for me here.

There's various other DC projects to keep the CPUs warm while idle.

(And other various Windoze boxes continue to be a nightmare just for running virus scanning and adaware anti-ads crap! User's are just far too 'web-clicky'... Must get them off IE!!! Daren't load them up with anything else to add to my maintenance time... (:-((

Meanwhile, the s@h folk are getting everything thrown at them!

This morning the entire Space Sciences Lab lost its network connectivity to the rest of the world for a few hours. This got fixed down on campus, but the SETI@home servers are still currently catching up, so you may have some difficulty connecting.

Lot's of 'fun'...
