Huh?
It seems to me that BOINC belongs here for the time being (for those who
choose to post here, of course).
Many Seti participants still running "stand alone" Seti (includes me) read
BOINC posts here.
BUT, nice try at a bit of self-promotion, Kirk!
Constrew it however you like, ytrewq, my main goal is to move distributed
computing software discussions to comp.distributed (which I do not own),
where they belong, and leave the SETI newsgroups for the discussion of the
science of SETI. Discussions of the science of the BOINC SETI client (like
whether it finds Gaussians accurately or whether it should look for triplets)
belog in the SETI newsgroups. Discussions of when the BOINC client can't
connect to the SETI@home project server or how hot it makes some users' CPUs
belong in the comp.distributed newsgroup.
But the discussion of Seti is worthless without expanding it to
include the distributed net portion of the program. You are suggesting
users go to several newsgroups to get the info on how to use one
program! This just doesn't make any sense at all. I agree that the
comp.distributed group could be used but to ask that Seti users and
Boinc users too for that matter move the distributed part of their
conversations to another group just isn't a worthwhile goal. The whole
idea is to make things MORE simplified not LESS!
Now if users want to discuss the finer points of discussing
distributed.net programs they by all means the group comp.distributed
woud be a better choice. BUT anything relating to Seti or Boinc should
remain here!
