I realise that quadrupling the load is quite a bit but then they did
release it to
the public didn't they?
Not really. The sign up URL was leaked to the public and the SETI
team decided to just roll with the punch and to allow the public to
start running SETI BOINC.
True.
But with the myriad of problems and outages currently occuring,
why continue the BOINC front page pimpage on the SAH1 classic
website?
The links state:
"A new version of SETI@Homes based on BOINC is available".
Then "Details are here"
Clicking on the 'details' link brings the following:
"We have released a new version of SETI@home based on BOINC, a
general-purpose platform for distributed computing projects. We encourage
you to switch to the new SETI@home."
They then go on to state it may be removed and SAH1 may be re-installed
it there are probs!
This makes no sense to me, given the current situation. Many SAH
novices and users w/only basic cpu skills simply d/l the GUI, & are done
w/it. Now, they are only several clicks away from BOINC, and possible
alienation.
Still can't quite figure this one out.
