Maybe this is the group to fix the problem since it's affecting the seti icon.
When I 1st reinstalled it in this new machine [I've been using seti for 7 years
on a P1, now on a P4] there's 2 processors on this machine, and seti took and
grabbed every ounce of memory, kernel, and everything else. The machine came to
a crawl like I was still on the P1.
Digging around in help I found the 2 processors thing processor 0 and 1.
Actually I ran across them much earlier even b4 setting seti up again.
trouble was setting the affinity by hand seemed to be a drag. ie: I'd remember
to do it if I noticed that the mouse was taking forever to go from here to
there..
Found xcpu in another thread here and set seti to use cpu 1. usage went from
99-100% down to 48/50%. It's still using 100%, but only on cpu 1.
This seems to be working just fine. I get a bog here and there, but I think
that's related to something else. Cause it's only in that one program that
things bog.
Is this bogging happening with others ? Or anyone else using xcpu and still
getting bogged down ?
Since this isn't the reason I joined the group, and the gray icon, most likely
won't get answered here since it seems to be a machine program or other
software problem.
Sorted :)
