I say SETI hasn't detected a signal because no civilization cares to contact us.  Probably just a few rogues drop by to pick up some food, or scientists figuring out how to get a little grant money from the interplanetary government.

Well, you know 1000 stars out of 100 billion stars is only a drop in the
ocean. Soon though, 1 million stars will be scanned, and then you
could start claiming that nobody wants to talk to us, if no
signal is detected.

sidespin: Saw 2001: A space odyssey again yesterday. Still a great movie, but what happens at Jupiter ? Is he travelling through a wormhole ? How come he is much older when he arrives ?
