What?! No alt.sci.seti???
Why is that a suprise? The alt.* groups frequently have to jump through
hoops to get on many servers. Some servers have stopped adding any
groups or groups that don't have the 'proper' control messages and
approvals.
Put in a request to your ISP. Or try out Google groups. There's also
various news servers open for access from the rest of the world.
Yes, a group may sometimes be on google, but google does not carry all
text groups. Also, google drops the x-no-archive posts.
An approved group in the sci.* area is more likely to be carried then any
alt.* group. So, the sci.* group has advantages over a similar alt.*
group in getting carried. Having said that, this is usenet so there are
no rules except for those that each admin decides to enforce.
