I'm trying not to launch another one of my tirades; maybe I'm missing
something obvious. I took a deep breath and downloaded BOINC. It's alive and
well and launches a screensaver according to my specs. But when it does, it
says "no application". Well yeah. That's because I have looked high and low
and cannot for the life of me find how to tell it to download the first SAH
assignment. At least Classic had a "get new workunit" line under "file", as
I recall. Where is the equivalent in SAH/BOINC?
I should say that I cannot let it dial up automatically. That's because the
quality of the phone lines out here is so bad that automatic disconnects
frequently don't work because the computer misinterprets line noise as
activity.
One thing that may be related: there's nothing coming up under "help" in the
"show" menu (except an "about"). Also I can't find a FAQ anywhere. So the
tools that one would normally expect to have available to solve what should
be trivial problems are not available. Furthermore, I've searched the
message boards and can't find anyone else who had this problem, which is why
I'm trying not to criticize SAH/BOINC too quickly.
Have you attached to the SETI project, found under your settings menu?
