Hello everybody,
Seti@home working in Sheffield, England (yes, its cold).
After several months of good intentions, I finally got round to
installing the seti@home software this morning.
I have a few questions, I hope that they have not been raised too many
times before...
Firstly - while the software runs fine on my computer, I recognise
that I'm not really equipped with cutting edge technology. I have a
four year old iMac (a 400 G33 with 192 mb ram).
I'm just worried (after reading the FAQ on the seti homepage) that the
completed data blocks I return will not actually contribute
anything/much to the project. As I understand it, multiple data blocks
are sent out and are regraded as being completed after 2 proper
responses are recieved.
Surely, everybody with a fast machine (PC OR Mac before the arguements
start) will return the blocks faster than me?
Secondly, a more staight forward question. The FAQ seems to indicate
that the seti software does not run in the background while using the
computer for something else. But it is on my machine, albeit at a
reduced speed. Is it OK to do this?
Many thanks in advance
Rob
