I installed real Player on my system XP.
Usually I complete a work unit in 17hr. Wintout SETI, as soon as
Real Player (RP) is loaded the CPU ressources increase to about
100%, that it is active (running a music, loclaly loaded on streaming)
or idle (even without any song loaded, only the RP kernel).
I haven't noticed any performance hit when running RealPlayer. On my
old PII 400 system (Win2000) it takes ~5% for audio playback and ~20%
for video playback. When it is stopped, it uses 0% CPU resources. It
sounds like you have some software clash issue. Perhaps you could
try re-installing it?
I checked and that changed somwhat
Without SETI and RP, my CPU resources are about 5-7%
A soon as RP runs I reach 30% or so, when it is idle say 5%.
When SETI runs it jumps to 100%
When they run together, SETI shows a slow down of about 30% or come back to
normal wheh RP is idle.
RP affects thus a lot the process of work units. I loss somes hours (30% of
17h)
