Got a message logging on yesterday that BOINC 4.09 is available.
Any advantages/requirements to upgrading (from Win2k ver of BOINC
v4.05)? Special steps to avoid loss of data/credits?
TIA

Read in a BOINC forum that 4.09 is primarily a windows fix, one
poster mentioned that it gives a slower benchmark which would
reduce your credits over time. Not sure if the slower benchmark
remark is correct but am leaving 4.05 on my system for the time
being, it works fine in Linux.
I read that the programmers found that the compiler was optimizing
out some of the benchmark code. They fixed that, so the benchmark is
now producing the correct values.
4.09 works well on my WinXp systems.
I also read that if you upgrade to a new version, the benchmark will
auto run, after it runs just click and have it run again. The second
time the system will benchmark faster.
I have an XP machine that I've been running BOINC 4.09 on for a while. I
noticed today that, due to some poor benchmarking and, even though it's on
24/7 and the cache is only set for six days, it had WUs that it wasn't going
to finish in time. (About 18 units due by the 4th and it takes over 6hrs
per).
I re-set it and see that it's downloading setiathome4.05.exe. My other
machine that's had BOINC 4.09 on the same amount of time is still running
setiathome4.03.exe
I'm wondering if I should reset it or whether it'll download the new core
client when needed or what will happen.
Any ideas? I don't usually read the forums, find it hard to find anything of
value.
