I downloaded and installed the BOINC 4.09 upgrade, no errors.
The "about" tab shows v4.09.
But during the my first startup, I got the messages:

So why is 4.05 "starting" if I just finished installing 4.09????

Your using BOINC 4.09 but the actual project software, in this case s@h is
version 4.05.

That was one of the many benefits reported to be coming with BOINC was that
if a new version of the core client was release on any project your working
on BOINC would automatically update.
