are there any compelling reasons to switch from SETI Classic to BOINC? I
really do not want to use BOINC until I absolutely have to, because as far
as I've seen, it's very buggy and hard to configure, and there are almost no
good add-ons written for it (examples of what I'm talking about... 3 add-ons
I can't live without are SETI Spy, SetiGate, and StarMap. :D)
You do not have to switch right now!
There are only a couple of add-ons for Boinc and none do what
Seti-Gate does. Boinc/Seti does NOT currently allow a caching type
program to work. The computer that downloads the workunit MUST process
AND return the same workunit!
Also, when the switch-over occurs (something I have trouble seeing happening
in the foreseeable future for various reasons, including the ones I listed
above) will Berkeley stop accepting WU's from SETI@Home users if they aren't
using BOINC? Or will they accept SETI@Home WU's, but just discourage people

When Classic closes it will CLOSE to everyone! No more units will be
sent or accepted. Boinc can do sooo much more with the work units and
is NOT limited to just Seti, there is Climate Prediction and several
others.
Boinc is a fairly stable program, the Seti part is having some severe
growing pains, the Climate Prediction part, run by a totally different
place, is doing just fine. I believe that part of the problems with
Seti under Boinc is that they are trying to keep Classic up and
running at the same time.
