As others have already said: Ask for permission first. If you are
turned down then you don't run it. The computing resources are not
yours and they are expensive.
Computing resources are definitely not a place where it's easier to
ask forgiveness than permission. Running unauthorized software, or
using company resources were worth your job where I used to work and
that was over 6 years ago.
Although some call it paranoia, it's not really as there are things to
fear out there so most admins keep a tight reign on their resources.
You are doing your part by asking even if they say no. To do
otherwise is against SETI policy as well as risking your job.
