The source code to both BOINC itself and the SETI client are provided on
the website. What's stopping you compiling them yourself?
Two things..
1. I'm not a coder, and if I run into problems on a NetBSD or non-x86
platform, I'm not going to know what to do about it.
2. Time. Tuesday I go in for surgery to remove my gallbladder. The
week after that is going to be spent recovering from that. Then it's
back to work with me so I don't lose my business.
Back in the day, if you needed a client for the "old" system (which
works great, IMHO) and you asked here, someone on the project would
get it done, assuming they had access to the hardware on which to do
the compile. (Guess that's why I never found a client for my
DECstation 5000/200.) I suppose those on the SETI project are busy,
too, so that's understandable, now, but that doesn't change the fact
that I'm not going to be able to go full-speed ahead like I have been
for the last 5+ years.... Bits of my farm will fall off due to lack of
support.. and that's just a sad thing.
