Boinc certainly is the way to go for flexibility and good rapidly developing science.

I feel there is still a need for a 'well known, well understood' and 'thoroughly tested' client that is updated very _infrequently_ so that production servers can be reasonably utilised. Otherwise, boinc is restricted to home use only and then only for the foolhardy reckless in industry.
