You were exactly right.
I did install a new all copper cooling fan rated for the 3.2 gHz processor.
However, even with this fan, the CPU temp jumps up to 80+ C within a few
seconds.
Guess I'm going shopping for the latest and greatest HSF.
Thanks

I have been running the Windows screensaver version of SAH for quite some
time with a 1.5 gHz P4 processor, 512 GB ram and Windows XP.
I just upgraded to a 3.2 gHz P4 processor.
All my other software runs fine and the system is otherwise stable.
However, when SAH home loads, it runs for about 10 seconds and then the
system locks up.
No mouse or keyboard response.
It takes a reset to restart the computer.
Any ideas on the nature of this problem and how to fix it?
Thanks in advance

Define "all your other software"?
It looks to me like you processor is nog getting enough cooling and is
overheating. The P4 processor throttles down of even shuts down when it
gets to hot. You will probably never notice this unless you use processor
intensive programs like heavy calculations or games.
Otherwise: try removing seti and re-installing it...
