Subject: Seti upgrade to BOINC (Linux)

I have just got Linux (Mandrake 10.1) up and running and managed to get Seti
(classic) running too. I needed to do this as I needed more heat in the
shed. I know that I can cache work units on Classic using a program similar
to Seti Driver, which I run on my Windows box/s to keep the box at 100%
utilization and hence heat output/value for electric to a maximum during the
winter months.

Question;

I beleive I will soon be forced to migrate to BOINC, and am concerned as I
beleive it is the case that BOINC does not offer work unit caching and
requires the box to be connected to the internet to return and receive work
units as they complete. Is this the case?, it seems very odd if this is so,
and concerns me for the security implications of leaving the network
connected 24/7. I think that if this is the case then it must have been
decided upon at a very early stage for some reason as this is such a basic
requirement for a user such as myself.
