The Linux Boinc client caches wu's.  Just set how often it connects to
several days on the website.  The number of wu's cached will depend on

processor speed.  I am normally connected 24/7 but have noticed when my

was down for a day the finished wu's are listed as uploading and
finished
the upload when my internet connection came back up.  I'm using Mdk 10.1

so

the same should apply to your system.  If you upgrade to KDE 3.3+

This is very good news, obviously I must have miss-understood some post or
another, or perhaps I have been crunching for so long now I just have a
mental block to change. But, having been able to install and use Linux I
am so excited anything is possible. Thankyou also for the additional
information I will experiment on my Linux box at the weekend.

WHOA, SLOW DOWN, it does NOT cache like you are thinking it does, I
don't think. EACH machine MUST still have access to the net. There is,
at this time, no Boinc Client that will elt you remotely cache units
for machines to use! Windows has the same "caching" ability as Linux.
You can "cache" up to 10 days of work units on each machine but ONLY
that machine can crunch the units. This is VERY similar to the way
SetiDriver caches units.

The OP does not mention anything about a central cache serving a local farm,
he refers to "the box".  If you set "Connect to network about every" to
several days in the General Preferences at Boinc, Seti wu's are cached.  I
run only Seti but other projects should have this capability if they want
it.  A slow machine will have a few wu's cached, a faster machine will have
more wu's cached up to the 10 day limit.  The other part of his question,
"... requres the box to be connected to the internet to return and receive
work units as they complete...", I took to mean he is using dial up so is
not connected 24/7.  Once the units are cached they will continue to be
worked on and "saved" for upload at the next connection time.  At least
that has been the way my Mdk box's worked when the ISP went down.  To the
OP, try knode or pan to post, OE6 is virus bait also see sylpheed/sylpheed
claws, thunderbird, and evolution.

I TOTALLY agree with EVERYTHING you have said in BOTH of your posts. I
just wanted to make sure the OP understood about the "local machine
cache" and that at this time there is no "off machine cache". I
probably could have said that better, but that is what I was TRYING to
clear up.
