Have you gone to the gone to the projects tab and tried to manually
update by right-clicking on the project, then left-clicking on update?

This message usually appears on my machines when I have not been
connected to the network and I have not disabled BOINC network access.
BOINC attempts to call home, can't get through, and increases the delay
with each unsucessful attempt.  My delay starts at one minute and goes
up from there.

You can manually force a connection attempt using the above method.

Wohoo That works  I 'm back online.  I  did try that earlier but it didn't
work , probably because I still had the earlier version of Boinc but now
that I've updated and rebooted the manual forced download works OK
