Disable it long enough to attempt a connection to the SETI@BOINC

It's like that for virtually everyone; most people just don't 
realize it's happening. Worms and scans, for the most part.

Actually ALOT of the scans are from your own ISP, they try to enforce
the no serving of files pretty heavily. ALL ISP's do this.
You can download and upload all you want, within their unwritten
guidelines, but if you have open ports that are used by servers so
others can come to you and get files, that is not allowed by most
ISP's. If they can cut down on this, the ISP usually has no problems
wth bandwidth for you and I.
