But the trouble is they are on a minimalist budget!

But on the other hand some knowlegdeable programmer might undertake the task as a matter of training :-) and do it for them. A Gnu StarMap!

Hey! It would also show the Messier objects (at least), and maybe some of the NGC objects, but also the Sun, Moon, and Planets! This would be so great!
