...Because a 64-bit recoding of the present client would give only a marginal speedup. A very significant rewrite is required to gain useful advantage of the new architechture.


If you are on Linux, you can get a reasonable speedup by using one of the CPU-specific optimised compiles offered by a dedicated person on the boinc-s@h forums. He's getting some very good speedups.
