Actually, I think they were very reluctant. Historically, they've

part of it!! Brave souls if you ask me, it was still energized at the
time!

No, they cut and stole the fiber network cable to the SSL; it was
bundled in with no-longer-used copper communication cables in a
tunnel between the SSL and main campus. Took almost a week to get
the fiber re-pulled and connected.
Fortunantly, I had a weeks' worth of WU in SETI Queue...
