Hello. I have a home network which is *not* on 24/7. The two machines are
both running the command line version with SetiQueue. They both put
results
into one Seti account. Both lots results are sent from the faster PC
manually. They both have internet access via a wireless LAN although it's
not always connected.
What is the best way to switch to Seti/Boinc. Use up all remaining units,
delete all SetiQueues and clients, and then get the new software?
That is what I would do. Except do not delete the software just yet,
there have been times with Boinc that the system has ben down while
Classic is still up and running.
What happens about the computers on a network? One is a Athlon 2700+ and
the
other is a Athlon 2200+. Do the PCs have to login in separately to the
internet?
Yes, currently their is no external caching of units allowed in Boinc.
You can set each up on different "schemes", work, home, etc.
If you put the one that rarely connects on one "scheme" and the other
one that has direct access on another "scheme", then you can set each
up for a different cache level. Meaning that the one that has direct
access can cache 1 or 2 days worth of units, but the other one can
cahe several days, up to a max of 10 days. One thing to remember with
Boinc though, ALL units have an expiration date of 2 weeks from the
day you download them.
If so, do they have to have different accounts as they are
different specs?
No, just do like you did with Classic and use the same account and id
info and both computers will be listed on one account.
Thanks for that. I forgot to say that they both have SetiDriver as well.I
don't suppose that makes any difference to your reply.
You say do not delete the old client - you can do both simultaneously??
