Or is it a Beta version. I ask because I get so many errors when I exit

program that I find it's stability suspect.

It is NOT in Beta.
Do you use the screensaver function? If so you might try stopping that
and just pushing the power button your monitor when you walk away.
The screen saver has caused problems for some users and because of its
seeming ramdomness it has been hard to fix.

I never use a screensaver. The monitor power off function is just as
effective.
My problems appear to originate from BOINC using 98 - 100% of my CPU.
Project processes continue to run even after I've exited the BOINC program
via right click on the sys tray icon>exit

Boinc is designed to use 100% of your cpu, as long as you are not
using the cpu for other things. It does take a few seconds for it to
back off though when you try to run a program. I would guess on the
exiting of the program too. How long does yours use the 98%-100% after
you exit Boinc?
How much free harddrive space do you have? How much ram do you have?
