Hi
Is there anyone at SETI, either Classic or Boinc, that would care to
comment as to when the Cogent internet pipe might be repaired?
Just a "finger in the wind" indicator, please. Not one we would use to
nail them down on.
Some form of contact would be greatly appreciated!
Yes John, to be honest: the lack of this pisses me off really this
time.
I seem to recall that during the "great outtage of 2001", the one
that happened exactly 4 years ago when some idiots stole a piece of
very important F/O-cable, at least someone from the official Seti team
tried to keep us informed about what was going on, what was expected
to happen etc. This time I only get info from ppl who are not
officially Seti representatives but seem to know what has happened but
not what is going on. Thank you very much but a bit of official
information to people who decided to offer their time/money/machine
capacity/machine wear etc. to some project would be very much
appreciated here, not only by me, I reckon.
If it hadn't been for Seti, I probably wouldn't have kept them going
at all, maintaining the s/w onto their disks, adjusting their
firewalls, upgrading their v/s-proggies on a weekly basis. Not to
mention I DO PAY my own energy bill.
It's funny to find out that the people who frantically search for
communication with supposedly existing ET's, completely forget about
the communication to the people who actually do a lot of computation
for their search.....
Louis (who is now setting a deadline till next saturday for this
stuff: if by then no progress has been made; i'll just turn off my
idling computers and keep the main one for private stuff. I'm not
looking for work for my puters: it was the original idea behind Seti
which draw me into the project)
The seti/boinc home page has info posted as the people have a chance to do the
writing.

Message boards are down while we install a network management card in the UPS
backing our main database server.

Our Internet link through Cogent went down at around midnight UTC on March
18/19. This is being looked at with an unknown time to fix. In the meantime,
data service (upload/download) is unavailable. More info and updates in
Technical News

The project will be down for 4 hours this coming Tuesday, March 22, starting at
14:00 UTC. Our building will be without power as campus tries to find the
reason for the power losses we experienced a couple of weeks ago.
