Note that s@h are a /small/ *research* group, although admittedly running a very big project. Things are being done for the very first time on newly developed software. The are various unknowns to explore or to get tripped up by.

For a well established commercial system with guaranteed resources, then it is reasonable to work to a fixed timescale with fixed published dates.

In the research environment, nothing is guaranteed.

The transition schedule lists what needs to be done, with a rough idea of timescale. Berkeley will work through the list as fast as resourcing and (unanticipated) external events permit.

In many respects, s@h is still a 'part-time spare-time for the love of doing it' project. The real world gets the higher priority interrupt.


Hang in there and watch for the next step.

Try not to be too sentimental about s@h classic. The code and algorithms live on, with a few extra goodies thrown in. Someone could even write a boinc 'add-on' to recreate the old s@h classic look (:-))
