Note that s@h are a /small/ *research* group, although admittedly
running a very big project. Things are being done for the very first
time on newly developed software. The are various unknowns to explore or
to get tripped up by.
For a well established commercial system with guaranteed resources, then
it is reasonable to work to a fixed timescale with fixed published dates.
In the research environment, nothing is guaranteed.
LOL
The transition schedule lists what needs to be done, with a rough idea
of timescale. Berkeley will work through the list as fast as resourcing
and (unanticipated) external events permit.
Work? Do you work at Berkeley? You sure sound like it. ;)
Seriously, people aren't that concerned with how fast the transition
is going. The last item listed on the transition schedule is dated
for tomorrow. This doesn't even qualify as a best guess when there
are several steps before the server shutdown that are still at a to
be announced status.
In many respects, s@h is still a 'part-time spare-time for the love of
doing it' project. The real world gets the higher priority interrupt.
Hang in there and watch for the next step.
You too, sport.
Try not to be too sentimental about s@h classic. The code and algorithms
live on, with a few extra goodies thrown in. Someone could even write a
boinc 'add-on' to recreate the old s@h classic look (:-))
Not that sentimental myself. I transitioned to BOINC last year.
