As I said email him and ask him! He would be HAPPY to explain the way
the system works to you.

We know how the system works; someone updates a simple web page.
The transition schedule says tomorrow may be the day Classic data
servers are shut down. Since new account creation hasn't even been
disabled for Classic and still has a "To be announced" status then
it appears that the information on that page is outdated.

But you seem to be resisting talking to the ONLY PERSON that can
answer your questions the way you want them answered!
We told you days ago that the schedule could slide, you said you
wanted a firm schedule with dates and times. And you said you could
not understand why you could not get one!

Now you're making stuff up. Please post the Message-ID of the post
where I (or anyone) demanded a firm schedule.
try these on for size:

I still have 1 machine with about a 10 days worth of work units.Tomorrow
I will set seti driver to hold only 1 in cache that way no more units
will be downloaded for next 10 days.

They'll be shutting down in phases: first registration of new
accounts will cease, then the servers will stop providing WUs, and
finally no more results will be accepted. They haven't yet said how
long each phase will last, but I would guess at least a week,
probably two. See the transition page, to which a link has already
been posted in this thread.

Why do you think they leave everyone guessing? It could be a week
or several months. The transition page does not answer the question
the SETI Classic users are asking. Let me guess; they're too busy
to appoint someone to speak to the unwashed masses.

The answers to your questions are simple...they do not know the
answers yet themselves!

Thank you for another simple non-answer. Who are you and why do you
think you know what is up at Berkeley? Please don't take this too
personal but I think SETI users deserve real answers from someone at
Berkeley who is willing to state who they are so we can have
confidence in the information they give.

IF Boinc stays up and the number of available
workunits stays high, it is over 1/2 million now, if the validator
keeps up, if this, if that, if something else, then Classic will
continue the close down process. If ANYTHING along that path varies,
and it easily could, then the path widens and the dates get shoved
back. How far, maybe as little as minutes, maybe hours and maybe days.
It even could be a week or so, but I would NOT count on a month!!!

Why do you think it will be less than a month? Thousands wonder.

They are COMMITTED to closing Classic down!

How do you know this? I am certain that at this point in time we
can only guess what is really going on at Berkeley.

There's not many names in the team over there so you can make an
'educated' guess for yourself. Only they have access to the website, so
why sign each entry? You could put in a request for clarification?

And why the suspicion?

Because there really is no excuse to keep everyone guessing.

Why do you think it will be less than a month? Thousands wonder.

That's as good a guess as any.

I guess.

All the developments and pressure of doing better science point to that.

Point? Guess we should point that antenna at Berkeley to check for
spikes, gaussians, pulses, triplets... a sign... another guess.

Dr Anderson has outlined nicely and clearly the careful steps they will
work through to smoothly move over to the much more versatile and newly
developed boinc-s@h. The timescales are 'open-ended' depending on how
each step proceeds.

See: http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/transition.php

Why? There are no answers there. Only guesses.

They have a lot of things to 'get right' and to still keep the project
live. Rather than lie with optimistic dates, they are likely working to
make the most timely transition as humans and systems allow.

Is that your final guess?

Dr. Anderson's email is the Classic main page under personel, email
him and ask him for the "EXACT" timetable you are looking for. Be SURE
to post what he tells you though!

Wouldn't it be better if David the director directed someone to
update the information on the SETI home page?

Please explain further. We must all be similarly curious.

Classic SETI users must be guessing why Berkeley keeps talking about
switching everyone to BOINC but neither the Classic site or the new
BOINC site has an updated schedule of when this is going to happen.
