Why do you assume this?
I don't assume it. People from the S@H team a Berkeley said it either
during the discussion for the creation of sci.astro.seti, or soon after
its creation, on sci.astro.seti. It's not exactly surprising; alt groups
don't have a reputation for wholesomeness and so non-commercial usenet
server operators tend not to carry them except when explicitly asked for.
I believe that alt.sci.seti has been whitelisted at Berkeley, but I've only
observed the S@H team posting to sci.astro.seti (or following cross-posts into
it) of the two groups.
I don't see why I should waste an hour or so trying to find the message-Ids,
though. We are talking about something that happened almost 6 years ago.
I also have a feeling that the initial Request for Discussion for
sci.astro.seti didn't go to alt.sci.seti, because the proposers weren't
aware of it.
