Having used s@h for many year, without problem, i tried to change to
boinc,
downloaded OK, installed OK
Tried to attach to seti - "disconnected" showing !
Tried again - disconnected!
and many more times, only once have i made a connection, after a re-boot,
so
re-booted 5 times in a row, same outcome "disconnected"
How do you get it out of disconnected mode !!

(I'm assuming this is the Windows Boinc version. Likewise, I just installed
Boinc after years of the classic SETI screensaver.)
I just ran into this problem this morning. "Disconnected" is being shown in
the right hand corner of Boinc's status bar?
After playing around a bit (trying to get it "re-connected"), I discovered
that Boinc is running both a daemon and a client on your PC. If the daemon
becomes unstable, locked up, terminated, etc then the client will show
"disconnected". When it is working properly, it will be connected to that
daemon (hence, saying "connected to localhost"). The client can also be
used to connect to other computers on your network that are also running the
Boinc daemon.
As to how to restart this daemon, I didn't poke around long enough to find
the actual program. I'm sure someone will reply here with it. I just
restarted the PC and it worked fine afterwards.
Hope that helps,
