The reason being is the screen saver.  The screensavers for BOINC,
while somewhat nifty, do not have the ability to be password enabled.

use screensavers to not only protect your monitor but also secure

Have you ticked the little box which says "Password protected" in the
Windows Screensaver dialogue? I have this option in Win 2000, so XP should
have it to, I assume this makes you enter your Windows password and works
with any screensaver? Not that I have ever used this feature :)
