I think it is fact that BOINC crashes the hole system (win98se and

Crashing a Windows computer is not a bug; it's normal. ;)

Very true (:-((

Also, the BSOD ("Blue Screen Of Death") and MS-Viruses are now legendary.

You could be suffering normal Windows-type problems, or it could be that
your system is overheating inside the PC case.

Try carefully cleaning out all the dust?
Are _ALL_ the fans working properly?
Any screeching noises suggesting that you need a new fan...?

Besides a good UPS, another thing to keep your computer running
trouble free is one of those hepa air purifiers in the room with
your computer.

A good test is to check out your system with Memtest86 and the (GIMPS)
mprime torture test.

(Boinc works fine over here on Linux (;-))

Yep.

Good luck,
Martin

ps: Note the tempting flame bait (:-P)

But people need to know there is a better OS out there. I tried
Mandrake and was impressed at how easy it installed and how solid a
system it is but I'm a Fedora fan.

Hey, you know they changed the name; right?
