I've not been able to connect for over 24 hours: "no such
file or directory". No "news" on the web site. No other
reports here. Is it just me??

read the webpage:

We have confirmed that there is a known network peering issue between Cogent
(our ISP) and OpenTransit (France Telcom) that is affecting connectivity for
many participants in Europe. [ ... ]

Cogent and OT/FT are involved in a dispute over money; from what I read
elsewhere, OT/FT pulled the plug first. The only workaround is a proxy
at a third party site, who's still on speaking terms with both of them.

To expand on the proxy work around it is really very easy to
do....just use a new version of the software, ver 4.25 or newer,
available here:
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php?dev=1
and click on tools, options and then in the http proxy box put:
any ONE of these lines in the proper boxes:
195.229.240.86 PORT : 80
82.101.132.51 PORT : 8080
62.193.231.243 PORT : 8080
195.229.240.86 PORT : 80
193.188.96.19 PORT : 80
193.188.96.138 PORT : 80
217.17.233.181 PORT : 80
66.160.69.101 PORT : 80
202.56.253.183 PORT : 8080
It WILL be slow, these proxies are overseas, from the US, but DO work.
