"Boinc" is the control program. You choose what projects you run under
it. You can just do seti if that's all you want.
Note that "classic" seti is just about to finish. We've had the advance
warning, though not a final closing date.
(A lot have switched as a result, including me, and my guess is that
they are having to do some reconfiguration to accommodate the new boinc
users before deciding on the final switchover date.)
I found boinc rather difficult to get configured right at first. It's
not clearly documented, but I found that it was best to use the
"-return_results_immediately" flag (running in Linux text mode). That
causes downloaded work units to be cached, but results are returned
immediately and only cached if they cannot be returned. The caching and
multiple processor support is built in.
