"release" or "development" versions. Lots of people seem to jump right

Note to all: 4.40 is a "development" version. Nice new features but also be prepared to expect some possible 'unexpected' features. Read up on what others have found before you jump in! (And do a backup _first_ in case you need to roll back to something that works...)
