This is where you must have at least some trust in the claimed intentions of the projects.

Or, with the open source philosophy, you can for yourself check out what is being done. There are others looking also. It is going to be very hard to 'sneak in' some sort of 'back door'.


If you really are worried of such things, then I strongly suggest you move over to another OS rather than Microsoft... (Viruses are just one problem with MS. The security problems run much deeper.)
