I can help a little here....because in Classic, as it is called, there
was no way to track the workunits that were sent out. That means that
Berkeley sends out a workunit and you crunch it, BUT you could also
send that same unit to me and I could crunch it, then Martin could
crunch it if we sent it to him. The problem is that we ALL get credit
for crunching it and there is no way to know if ANY of us crunched it
correctly!
In Boinc a unit is sent out to 4 people, currently, and then when 3
results have been returned a computer looks at the requested amount of
credits, yes your computer will request credit based on some
calculations it does, and as long as all 3 units are within the
statistical limits imposed by Berkeley, credit is granted. Then if the
4th person returns the workunit within the 2 week time limit, they
will also get that same amount of credit.

Oh...this is only ONE of the reasons why Classic is closing!
Another would include the fact that more antennas are coming on line
with more and different units and Classic was just not very
adapatable.
