I typically bring up ZoneAlarm to shut down all Internet connectivity while

would BOINC need access to the internet/LAN to just process SETI files,

"Disable BOINC Network Access" option is selected?

This was discussed a while back on the Boinc boards but was okayed as
it was just a housekeeping chore it is doing. Just let Boinc thru and
all will be fine. If you REALLY want to stop the net just unplug the
wire, Boinc may run that way, it may just error out.
