I agree with you. I was sort of compulsive about getting my classic work
unit totals maxed out before I switched exclusively to Boinc about 3 months
ago. I thought at the time Classic was about to fold up (I see it still
hasn't). I made it to 4000 units exactly and stopped. I wanted to go for
5000 but estimated the time to do it would not be available so I cut it off
at a nice round number.
I'm proud of this total, and they were all done on my work laptop kept
running almost constantly, since May 1999 when I signed on. I had to stop
for a while in 2001, and I dont have a network of PCs to hide/scatter work
units to get totals up.
Anyway there are millions of PCs out there doing very little of any merit,
and they become obsolete so fast, that Seti or DC work in general is a good
thing.
