The actual prob is design and maintenance, all done by engineering students.
There are no more technicians, you know the guys who make it work and repair
things. The guys in charge now can design it from the ground up but when
something goes wrong, rather than fix it, redesign it. I know, my grandson
has a masters in computer science and when he wired lighting in his rafters,
he couldn't understand why the bulbs were so dim. He wired them in series

Whats up with boink? I've got one system that's out of work, 2 others

My
internet is fine. I can get statistics updates ok.
Yes, Berkeley have a problem with their upload/download server being
overloaded for some reason.

I really truly wish
they would go back to Seti Classic which actually worked.
And it is still working until the new foibles with Boinc have been
cleared.
Boinc is still new and is still getting new functionality added. Seti
classic is now very old and staid and long-in-the-tooth and can't do
any
other analysis other than only what it is already doing.
Nope, not so. If there are new things to examine then the current Seti
Classic could easily be updated to add those checks/tests/routines to the
analysis. Nothing in the search for ET requires boink (vs Seti Classic).
Its poorly designed software and the proof is right in front of everyone:
Is it running anywhere's near normal? nope. Has it always had problems?
yep, right from the git-go. Did they test it well enough before release?
nope - not even close. The thing is... somebody is making money on boink,
not sure who or how, but why else would you offer some of your own
(Seti's)
computing time to other unrelated efforts (offered via giving existing
Seti
crunchers an easy option to work on other projects instead of Seti)? Some
part of Seti's base user group is now working on other projects, and its
only possible due to boink - it wasn't possible with Seti classic.
This is a scandal in the making - mark my words. The whole story of boink
isn't known yet but it will come out eventually. Think about it, i know
it
sounds wacky but... just think it over.
We've been boink'd alright, and boink'd good!
