Were the 'golden' discs created because that was the best technology at
the time or someother reason? i.e. if the same project was launched
today, would they still use a copper record, or cd, or high capacity
hdd, or what?
Why copper rather than gold?
More recent 'vanity messages' have been written to CDs attached to
whatever space probe.

CD's will deteriorate over time. Gold does not. I don't know why anyone
would suggest copper over gold as being better.
Voyager's records are gold plated copper.
