I went so far as to completely remove BOINC, and deleted the BOINC
directory with the Seti stuff in it.
I reinstalled BOINC 4.45 yesterday. The computer downloaded Seti 4.18
and then was able to download the file names for 12 or 13 WUs, but it
was not able to download the contents.
With nothing running but 4.45 and it trying to download new WUs into
an empty cache the computer lost 5 minutes in just under 24 hours.
I just reinstalled 4.25 after removing 4.45, but not deleting the
directory of files. So, starting at 6:16 local (2216Z) I'll let it
run for a couple of days to see if it eventually downloads any of the
files. It's currently trying to download those files that are listed,
but has had no success to start, but as I recall the one in the shop
was the same way.
As of last night the computer in the shop (running 4.45) appeared to
be back to normal as is the one in my wife's office.
4.45 does not appear to run well on either computer in my den. Both
run slow when the application is running but the other two do not. I
am not running BOINC or Seti on this computer as it is already working
hard. As I've mentioned before, this computer is a 64 Bit 3.4 Gig
Athlon with 2 Gig RAM while the other is a 3.2 Gig 32 Bit Athlon with
1 Gig of RAM. None are overclocked.

Okay MOST people are NOT getting and returning units right now! Boinc
That I understand.
is down, maybe Classic too I have not checked, and will be down until
at least the AM at Berkeley. Read the Technical News on the Boinc page
Originally it was going to be for a few hours would would take it into
the AM.
for why. BUT the reason for this message was to tell you that you
should try using a proxy when it is back up and here is a list for you
to try:
Thanks for the list. I'll save it for reference.
I've been getting through with the exception of not being able to
actually send of receive WUs from just the one machine. It connects
and starts the upload or download of WUs that it has received the
headers for. Then it times out (I think that is the reason) and says
"backing off" for different times for each WU) An example is "Starting
download ####" then the next line is "Temporarily failed download of
#### " followed by
"Backing off X Hours XX Minutes"
It was working fine until the first part of August when I went to
4.45. Then the computer started slowing down and required resetting
the clock daily.
It looked a little flaky with 4.25, but it seems to have settled down.
The router is set up to let it have access and that is working. I've
tried a couple of the proxy's below and although it shouldn't be able
to get any WUs right now, the actual behavior is the same as it was
without a proxy. It connects, but can't do anything.
I'll leave it running and see what's on it tomorrow.

In ver 4.27 it is under Tools/options,http proxy.
I think it's the same in all of them at least in 4.19, 4.25, and 4.45
which are the ones I have in downloads. I do have others but they are
too old to use.
Just go thru the list and see if one works. I am gettting thru just
fine and I live in Virginia, US and am using Comcast as my ISP. You
living in Michigan SHOULD be getting thru! You may have to switch
I do on all but one computer and there it appears as if they won't
accept a WU from it. I completely emptied the queue so it had to
start over. It almost immediately downloaded the headers for 13 WUs,
but then roughly 300 tries later it still hadn't actually received the
contents for any of those WUs. I'd assume that being it received the
headers it is connecting fine.
around as one may work one day and then not the next, so keep the list
handy.
